If you are looking for the best solution to all of those problems, look no further than slow cooker recipes. This is the best option that can keep you out of the kitchen for all that unnecessary time and provide a good and healthy home cooked meal for all the members of your family. Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Know any slow cooker recipes with few ingrediants?
I got a slow cooker for christmas, but I have only used it three times because all these recipes are 15 ingrediants long! Anyone know any slowcooker recipes with VERY FEW ingrediants? Like, four or five or less?

    • ANSWER:
      Here's a few suggestions:

      Cola Chicken

1 family size package chicken wings
      2 cup catsup
2 - 12oz. can cola (pepsi, coke, etc.)
2- packages McCormicks Buffalo wings seasoning

Put chicken in a non-stick pan.
Mix together catsup and cola, seasoning….pour over chicken.
      Bring to a boil.
      Reduce heat…cover with lid..and cook 45 minutes.
(turning chicken a few times, while cooking...to prevent from
      sticking to pan)
Cook until the sauce becomes thick and adheres to the chicken.

It turns into the most incredible BBQ sauce. Yummmm!

I used the spices from a MILD (I don't care for "HOT") Buffalo
Wings packet...(the kind you get to bake in the oven).....I thought it
was really good.....(but you/I can't find a 'bad' way to fix chicken).

This recipe is doubled…..for my husband and myself…I use ½ the ingredients.

You can double…the double….and more as you like.

      BBQ Ribs

Use the same method (Cola Chicken)….leave out McCormicks seasoning.

      Ribs & Chicken wings both good…..and……‘s I m p l e’…..to fix…!!

      Mushroom Chicken

      4 chicken breast
1 can cream of mushroom soup
      water

Mix a can of cream of mushroom soup with can of water.
      Place chicken in crock pot.
Pour soup over chicken and cook on medium ....4-5 hours....or until desired doneness.

      Old Settler's Beans

      INGREDIENTS:

      1/2 lb. ground beef
      1/2 lb. bacon
      1 chopped onion

Brown in skillet and drain excess grease.

      ADD:

16 oz.can Red Kidney Beans (drained)
24 oz. can Pork & Beans (drained)
      1/2 cup white sugar
      1/2 cup dark brown sugar
      1/4 cup Catsup
      2 TBLS. Molasses
      1/2 tsp. dry mustard

      Mix Thoroughly !

Cook in a crock pot until...hot...hot...hot!

      Stuffed Peppers for 2
      (Can be doubled, tripled..etc.)

      Mix together:
      1/2 lb.Hamburger (or gr. turkey)
a pkg. of onion soup mix
3/4 of 1 small can tomato paste.
      1/2 cup rice

Prepare peppers.....cut off top and take out seeds.

Fill with meat mixture. Place in an oven proof dish/pan that has a lid.
Place any extra meat mixture in bottom of pan or make a couple of patties & freeze for future use.

Mix remaining tomato paste with can of tomatoes (crushed....diced...etc. whatever you want to use.)

Pour tomatoe mixture around peppers, cover and bake in 375 degree oven for 1 hour.

Serve with cornbread or garlic bread.

      POT ROAST
Your choice of beef or pork(to fit crock-pot)
1 pkg. dry Ranch dressing mix
1 pkg. dry Italian dressing mix
1 pkg. dry Brown Gravy mix
      1 cup water
      Put beef in pot.
Mix together all the dry mixes….then add water …pour over meat and cover & cook on high 4-6 hours.
      Until meat is tender.
The first time I made it I didn’t have the Italian Dressing mix….so I added a pkg. of Onion Soup Mix….I have to say I liked that better.
If you use more water you might want to add more Brown Gravy mix….to make a thicker sauce. Was gonna add
potatoes and carrots…but never got around to it.

      "Canned Soup".
      (My Way!)
Whatever cans of veggies I have, that I like, in cabinet it goes in the pot.....along with all the juices in the cans.
Cook on stove top or Crock pot.
      Enjoy!

      Canned:
      corn
      peas
      carrots
      gr.beans (any variety)
      lima beans
      wax beans
      tomato (any variety)
potatoes (whole or sliced...or both whatever you like)

      You get the idea....lol.

Also add a package of shredded cabbage (cole slaw mix).
You can even add a package of onion soup mix.
If it gets too dry and needs more liquids....add tomato juice...V-8...etc.

      "Corny Beanie Weenies."
(from a country preacher in Mississippi…wife & 2 teenage sons)

Mix one can of good baked beans
We use a good sized can of beans (14-16 ounces, I think) and
get a kind that we like (maybe with brown sugar, onion, and bacon).
There are several kinds of good baked beans.

and a package of Oscar Meier Weiners (all sliced up).

with a can of whole kernel corn (drained)

Any way, heat up these three ingredients, and serve with brown bread
(maybe toasted ?) and a glass of milk.

It doesn't get any easier than this, and is suprisingly good!

      Pattsywattsy notes:
1.)Might put ingredients in a casserole dish and top with corn muffin mix.
2.)Use a pound of cooked gr. beef or gr. turkey or cooked Jimmy Dean w/sage sausage or some smoked sausage.
      (Rename ….???)

(This is another recipe I’ve not tried yet. Should adapt to crock pot)
      EASY BEEF STROGANOFF

      Ingredients:
      3/4 lb lean ground beef
1 jar Heinz HomeStyle Savory Beef Gravy (12 oz Jar)
1 can mushrooms, drained (7 oz can)
      1/2 cup sour cream

  3. QUESTION:
    Any good slow cooker recipes?
I am looking for actual recipes not websites to find recipes. I really love chicken. I have a slow cooker with low, medium and high levels. I haven't used it yet and hope to break it in this week since i am not working. Any help would be wonderful.

    • ANSWER:
This is not the week to do this, but after the holidays, make Cranberry Chicken.

Put raw skinless chicken legs and/or thighs in the crock pot along with one finely chopped onion. In a large bowl, mix one can of cranberry sauce (I prefer the berry kind, not the jelled, but that's up to you, they are both good!) with 2 tbsp dijon mustard, 1/4 tsp cloves, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp ginger. Pour the cranberry mixture over the chicken, turn the pot on low and cook all day. Remove chicken to a platter, degrease the gravy, make a slurry of 1 tsp corn starch and 2 tbsp water and mix it in with the gravy. Turn pot on high and cook until gravy thickens. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes, it's really tasty!

To lower the fat, you can use skinless, boneless chicken breasts, but they cook MUCH faster...if you cooked them all day it would taste like yummy shoe leather.

  4. QUESTION:
Any good slow cooker recipes for one person?
I'm a college student and I got a small slow cooker for Christmas. I've been looking for recipes but it's been hard to find them for just one person. I was wondering if there were any sites for recipes for one person or if someone can send me some recipes. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Here are a bunch of sites and recipes for the small slow cookers:
      http://members.tripod.com/~catbyd1/Crockette/C-etteRecipes.html
      http://www.nd.edu/~meiteljo/crockette.html

Of course, you can always just refrigerate or freeze any leftover meat/etc (or turn into sandwiches, salads, stews, casseroles, soups, burritos, etc) when making larger portions, or you can fill the pot with veggies as well as meats so there will be less meat to eat up.

      HTH,

      Diane B.

Is it possible to substitute tofu for chicken in slow cooker recipes?
I see many slow cooker chicken recipes and the flavor in them sounds good, but is it possible to substitute tofu? Has anyone tried this? I am sure the cooking time would have to be reduced.

    • ANSWER:
It should be fine. Just make sure to use extra firm tofu and maybe put it in the cooker near the end of cooking. It will still take on the flavours and will be less likely to fall apart. I don't think it would fall apart anyway, I've used it in many recipes

  13. QUESTION:
I have just bought a slow cooker...any good recipes I should try?
I will also have a look on the internet however I was wondering if anybody would like to share their favourite slow cooker recipes with me so I can try them!

    Thanks.

PS Can you do roasts in a slow cooker?
EDIT - You mean you can do roasts AND cakes...this is getting better and better...

    • ANSWER:
Slow cookers are versitile. You can make stews, roasts, casseroles....
I personally like the St. Patrick's Day boiled dinner:

      corned beef
      onion
      turnip
      carrot
potatoes or a substitute if you make colcannon
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colcannon

      Another idea:
      beef stew
seer small/medium chunks of beef in fry pan
Put beef, onion, celery, carrot, peas, green beans, barley, water, garlic, salt and thyme into crock. [Feel free to add/substitute items that will flavor and complement this basic stew] Let cook on high for about 2 hours and on low for another 2-3. Stir as needed. The barley should thicken the stew as it finishes cooking.

  14. QUESTION:
i need some slow cooker recipes that are excellent?
i want to know how to make different things in my slow cooker other than bbq. I have another recipe i am gonna try soon that's lemon chicken with broccoli. What about a roast with vegetables?? how would i do that and what are some others?

    • ANSWER:
Well to do a roast with veg, just cut up your veg and put your meat and veg in the SC. You can brown the roast first as this will help retain the juices.
I would recommend putting your piece of meat in the SC first followed by your veg, and depending on the size of your roast you may want to delay adding the vegies for a little bit.

Other than that you can make so many wonderful things in a Slow Cooker. I have made my lasagne sauce in it. I have made Sweet and Sour Chicken, Satay Chicken (though the Satay was from a tin.), Apricot Chicken. And some delish stews and things.
If all else fails just chuck some stuff in there and chances are it'll be pretty good.
If you want anymore info you can email me, but here are some links to some websites that have helped me with my SC

  18. QUESTION:
Need Slow Cooker Recipes for ground meat/turkey?
I love using my crockpot but have been unable to find ground beef/turkey recipes where you DON'T have to cook the meat, etc. first. Maybe it's simply not possible or suggested to throw raw meat in the crockpot but if I can do it with chicken, why not ground meat? Most recipes of this type have noodles which also have to be pre-cooked. I mean really, if I have to pre-cook everything first why even bother with the slow cooker at all? So if anyone has any recipes to not have to pre-cook meat or anything else, please share. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      Below are some recipes...
But there are also many recipies for meatballs where you don't precook the meat.

      Easy Slow Cooker Meatballs

1 1/4 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs

      1 medium yellow onion, chopped
      1 egg, beaten
1 (28 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
1 (16 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (14.25 ounce) can tomato puree
      DIRECTIONS
In a bowl, mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, parsley, garlic, onion, and egg. Shape the mixture into 16 meatballs.
In a slow cooker, mix the spaghetti sauce, crushed tomatoes, and tomato puree. Place the meatballs into the sauce mixture. Cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.

1 (28 ounce) can canned tomato sauce
      1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

      DIRECTIONS
In a slow cooker, combine ground beef, onion, rice and cabbage. Pour in tomato sauce. Season with parsley, salt and pepper. Mix well, and cook on low, for 6 to 8 hours.

      Barbecue Meatloaf
      INGREDIENTS:
      2 to 2 1/2 pounds ground chuck
      1 can tomato soup, divided

      2 tablespoons brown sugar
      PREPARATION:
Combine ground chuck with half of the tomato soup, egg, crackers, honey, 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, onions, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into a ball. Place a crinkled length of aluminum foil in the slow cooker/Crock Pot so the ends extend an inch or so out of the pot.
Place the meatloaf in the pot (the foil will make it easier ro lift the meatloaf out and keep it out of the drippings).
Combine remaining soup, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, the water, mustard, and brown sugar. Whisk together and pour over the meat loaf. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

  21. QUESTION:
Does anyone have recommendations for a good slow cooker recipes book?
I got a slow cooker for Christmas and am having trouble finding anything decent to make. i eat a lot of meat and like soups as well if that helps, but ill try almost anything if theres a good easy recipe

    • ANSWER:
This is so good, but I make it on the stove top so you don't have to brown the beef first, but it is so much better this way.Beef Roast coated in a bit of flour & browned on all sides in olive oil in the pot first then add a bit of water, onions, carrots, potatoes, bell peppers, beef bullion,salt&pepper,1/4 cup cooking sherry,3 or 4 T.red wine vinegar and enough water to cover it all,I also like to add some stewed tomato's but my Husband doesn't like it quite so "tangy" so I leave them out for him.You might like some garlic in it too but I left it out the last time I made it and it's great both ways. I only know how to eye out the ingredients for a 4 quart pot with a lid and I bring it all to a boil, then simmer for 2 hrs. covered. Add a baked potato how you like it or put some potato chunks into the crock pot with all the other ingredients. I turn any left overs into a stew or a soup. Our 3 Sons love this meal in 1 pot as well as their Dad.Both our Daughters make it for their Husbands and they always love it too.

    • ANSWER:

There are several of these types of recipes at www.slowcookerway.com. They are all healthy and lead to me losing almost 70 pounds. I am still looking for more ideas. What are your slow cooker healthy recipe ideas?

    • ANSWER:
      One of my go-to recipes:

One pound of chicken breasts cut into large chunks
One can of low-fat cream of mushroom soup
      3 Tablespoons of dijon mustard
      2 teaspoons of cornstarch
      Pepper to taste

Place the chicken in the crock pot and season with poultry seasoning or seasoned salt. Mix the remaining ingredients in a bowl and then place on top of the chicken. Cook on low for about four hours. All you need with this is some fresh vegetables cut up on the side. Sometimes I serve the chicken over egg noodles.

      1/4 cup Italian dressing
1/2 cup white wine (substitute vegetable broth, if desired)
      1 tsp. rosemary

Anyone have Boston Butt slow cooker Recipes??
I have a new 6.5 quart slow cooker and a 6 pound boston butt. I am looking for a recipe that calls for about 8-9 hours of cooking so it will be ready when family arrives. I would appreciate all recipes especially unique ones. Thanks everyone

    • ANSWER:
It's really great if you can brown the pork roast first in a heavy skillet - that adds a nice color and depth of flavor to your dish. After browning, place in your slow cooker, add a cup of veggie broth (or water, or beer), and some S&P. I also like to add a pinch of thyme and oregano, plus a bay leaf, and a crushed garlic clove. Cover and simmer on high for 5 hours, or low for 8 - the meat will be falling-apart tender when it's done, and the flavor is out of this world! You can also add some root veggies - carrots, turnips, parsnips, potatoes, onions - these are good to add about 1/2 way through the cooking time, so they don't get to mushy! Enjoy!

What are some good slow cooker recipes for a group of 6?
They're all in their mid to late 20s and like asian food. I'd like to find something that could have something easy made on the side like rice. A few of them eat a lot so if the recipe is for a larger number, that's great. It doesn't have to be asian, just something maybe that you've tried and it went over well. There are so many recipes, so I'm trying to narrow it down. Thanks!

Who has good crock pot/ slow cooker recipes?
Like many of you, I'm a working mom on a tight schedule. I love to cook, but some nights I'd love to just come home to dinner without stopping at the local fast food joint or other take-out solutions.

I love coming home to the smells of dinner cooking but am running low on recipes for my crock pot.

What are some good recipes that I can throw in the crock pot before I leave for work that will be done after about 9+ hours?

    • ANSWER:
Cambell's soup has a slow cooker recipe book that is fantastic.

My favorite and easy thing to make in the slow cooker is chicken tacos. Take about 4-6 chicken breast and a large jar of salsa (enough to cover the chicken) and that's it. My slow cooker has 4,8 and 10 hour settings. I find that any of them work. The chicken is easy to shred, just pop it into a taco shell with lettuce, cheese and tomatoes and you're done. I usually will heat up a can of beans and sometimes make Mexican rice. My husband love to make burritos out of the left overs.

  42. QUESTION:
    Chili slow cooker recipes?
I want to make chilii using my new slow cooker. Anyone have any tips. I have ground turkey and a lot of dried pinto, white kidney, and garbanzo beans. Do I have to cook the beans before putting them in the slower cooker or can I put them in raw?

    • ANSWER:
soak the beans overnight in water that covers them and put 1 tbsp baking soda in it. it'll make it so you don't have terrible gas from the fresh beans. then parboil the beans for 20 minutes until the skins start to wrinkle. now in the slow cooker you have to make sure there is plenty of fluid to cover the beans and so don't put in your thickening agents until the last hour or so. you'll be slow cooking your beans all day so put them in the morning and have chilli for supper. I find putting a really strong cup of coffee in with the beans makes for a delicious bite. so I would brown your turkey and put it in the pot with the beans and 1 diced onion. a diced green pepper, 4 garlic cloves minced, jalapeno peppers sliced to taste. salt and pepper to taste...a bit of sugar to mellow it out....cup coffee....sprinkle of cumin and oregano....2-4 tbsp chili powder, can of diced tomatoes. top up with water cook all day adding more water as needed near the end add tomato paste to thicken and then taste for saltiness and adjust seasonings accordingly. I never follow a recipe I just throw things together.

    nothing spicy please

    • ANSWER:
      sweet and sour keilbasa:
      6 tablespoons butter
      2 large onions, sliced
      1 cup packed brown sugar
      1/2 (28 ounce) bottle ketchup
      3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons spicy brown mustard
      1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce (optional)
1 pound kielbasa sausage, cut into 1 inch pieces
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute onions until tender. Stir in brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and optional pepper sauce. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes.
Place sausage in a slow cooker with the sauce and onions. Cook on low for 4 to 5 hours. The longer it simmers the better! I'll serve this plain with crackers and toothpicks or over white rice with a little of the cooking sauce on top...

      Also:
      Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs
4 pounds pork baby back ribs
      salt and pepper to taste

      2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
      1 dash hot sauce
      Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Season ribs with salt and pepper. Place in a shallow baking pan. Brown in oven 15 minutes. Turn over, and brown another 15 minutes; drain fat.
In a medium bowl, mix together the ketchup, chili sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and salt and pepper. Place ribs in slow cooker. Pour sauce over ribs, and turn to coat.
Cover, and cook on Low 6 to 8 hours, or until ribs are tender.

That's basically all I use my slow-cooker for...oh, unless I make a pasta sauce, but i usually do that on the stove top...
      Enjoy!

  47. QUESTION:
Slow cooker bread pudding/hot cereal recipes please!?
    Hi!
I have a mini 2 qt slow cooker, and I would love to make some bread pudding, and hot cereals with it.
Can you give me easy recipes my 5 yr old son can help me throw together in there? I have a big bag of rolled quick cook oats my grama gave me, could those be used in a slow cooker? Also have a large bag of granola, which I would like to incorporate into a slow cooker recipe of hot cereal...
I am looking for basic recipes, just something for my son and I to have for breakfast some mornings, or for a treat... thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      Bread Pudding

      Ingredients:
      5 eggs, beaten
      3 1/2 cups milk
      2 teaspoons vanilla
      2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon
      1/2 teaspoon salt
6 cups plain bread crumbs (or more to make mixture as thick as cooked .. oatmeal when mixed with all ingredients)
      3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 Tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
      1/2 cup raisins (optional)
One mashed or sliced banana (optional)

      Prep:
Mix all ingredients together until bread crumbs are thoroughly wet, and mixture is smooth like thick oatmeal. Place mixture in a WELL greased slow cooker/Crock Pot. Cook on high for 4-5 hours,or until a knife stuck in middle of the "pudding" comes out fairly clean.

NOTE: For the last 1/2 hour of cooking, lift the lid a "crack" by putting a spoon or fork between it and the pot, to let the excess moisture escape; otherwise you will have a clear liquid all around the bread pudding.

Bread pudding should rise slightly like a cake while cooking, and be smooth on top. It should be fairly solid when done, like a very moist chewy brownie, or perhaps like a dense souffle.

  50. QUESTION:
What aresome of your favorite slow-cooker recipes?
Got a new 7 qt crock pot today and I'm wanting some new recipes!

    • ANSWER:
Steak & Kidney Stew, Crock Pot/Slow Cooker
2 large carrots, peeled and diced
      2 onions, peeled and sliced
      3 garlic cloves, sliced
      4 lambs kidneys
      500 g stewing beef, cubed
1/4 cup all-purpose flour, to coat the steak & kidney before cooking
1 cup red wine, the type you like to drink
      2 beef bouillon cubes, Oxo
      1/2 cup water, boiling
      1 tablespoon tomato puree
      1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
      1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
      1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper (to taste)
2 teaspoons cornstarch, too thicken at the end of cooking
1 Switch your crock pot/slow cooker on to warm-up. 2 Peel and slice the carrots, onions and garlic. 3 Place vegetables in the bottom of the crock pot/slow cooker, replace lid while you work on the meat. 4 Remove skin from the kidneys if there is any. Cut into as big or small pieces that you like, set aside. 5 Cut the steak into 1 inch cubes, place in a zip-lock bag with the kidneys and 1/4 cup of all purpose flour, close the bag leaving some air in it and shake well to coat the meat. Remove meat from the bag and place on top of the vegetables in the crock pot/slow cooker. Replace lid. 6 In a jug place the 1 cup of wine, 1/2 cup of boiling water, 2 oxo cubes, 1 tbsp tomato puree, soy sauce and mix well. Pour over the ingredients in the crock pot/slow cooker. 7 Sprinkle chili flakes and rosemary on top of stew. Add as much black pepper as you like. 8 Cook on low all day or until the meat and vegetables are tender. 9 I have not added salt because of the stock cubes & soy sauce, but you can if liked. 10 When cooked. Check that the stew is as thick as you like it. If not mix the 2 tsp of cornflour with 2 tsp cold water. Turn the crock pot/slow cooker to high and stir in the cornflour, a little at a time, stirring and checking that it is as thick as you want the stew to be. You don't need to add all the cornflour if it's how you want the stew. 11 Serve with boiled potatoes and steamed broccoli or any vegetables you like. 12 Note: You might like to add frozen peas in the last 5 minutes.
